Healthy Makeup

With so many options out there to stay healthy, why not add a little bit of it into your makeup routine?  There are new products made every day with more and more healthy ingredients in them–they key is just knowing what they are and what they do for you.

Foundation– Look for key ingredients like Vitamin E, Flaxseed, SPF and ProVitamin B.  These essential antioxidants are sure to improve the quality of your skin while enhancing its’ radience.  If you have blemish prone skin, look for a foundation that contains a salicylic-acid–that way, your makeup will be taking care of those blemishes, cutting down the amount of products you need to put on your face.  Some top healthy foundations to try are: Almay Smart Shade and Lancôme Color Ideal Precise Match Skin Perfecting Makeup. Tip-If you apply with a brush or sponge, wash them with an sensitive anti-bacterial wash once a week.

Mascara–Believe it or not, there are mascaras out there that actually nourish your lashes with ingredients like soy protein, keeping them clean and glossy looking, never clumpy. Beware of Waterproof versions, they tend to dry out your lashes.  Some healthy mascaras to try are: Neutrogena’s Healthy Volume Mascara and Almay’s Nourishing One Coat Mascara.

Lipstick–Many lip products claim to do wonders for your pout.  Make sure you have all the key ingredients in your lipstick or gloss like SPF, Vitamin E, and Petroleum.  Some healthy lip products to try are: Anything from Burt’s Bees!

In order to keep your “healthy makeup” healthy, toss it and replace it every 4-6 months.  Don’t give any bacteria the chance to start growing and destroy the makeup’s healthy effects.
