Healthy Habits for Summer Skin Care

sun Healthy Habits for Summer Skin CareWell, it’s that time of year again!  Summer is right around the corner and we all know what that means…bathing suits and hot, hot sun.  Let’s skip over the thought of bathing suits for the moment since we women always seem to be the hardest on ourselves.  I’d like to give you some ways to safely take care of your skin this summer and protect it from damaging UV rays.

What can you do to maintain healthy, vibrant skin this summer?

  1. Avoid the sun during peak hours. The sun’s rays are at their hottest during the hours of 10am and 4pm, so try to stay indoors during these hours if possible.
  2. Always use sunscreen. Go out and buy some sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and always apply liberally about 20 minutes before going out in the sun, after intense exercise and after you get out of the water.  Remember to reapply every 2 hours!
  3. Examine your skin monthly. Take a close look at your skin every month and note any suspicious looking blemishes, moles or markings and call your doctor for an exam.  You should also schedule a yearly professional skin exam.
  4. Moisturize your skin.  Choose a moisturizer with SPF in it.  Look for an SPF of 15 or higher and apply moisturizer as needed to keep water from escaping from your skin.
  5. Protect yourself with clothing. When you are out in the sun, try to protect your skin as much as possible with long sleeve shirts, long pants or skirts and a hat.  The less your skin is exposed to damaging ultraviolet rays, the better!

What do you do to protect your skin from sun damage?

  1. are you seriously trying to tell people to stay inside between the hours of 10am & 4pm all summer long? That’s ridiculous!

  2. Well you don’t have to stay at home but you should stay indoors as much as possible or just wear sun screen and protective clothing and sun glasses as well.
